Machining Week 12

Last Monday was our final lab time. We continued working on our parts and were able to finish the x-axis plate and its extrusion stock. We then tried to assemble the x-axis but some of the threads in the plate were wrongly machined. Rachel is planning to fix this next week and we'll take another shot at assembling the axis. Here are some pictures:

Our threadless nut assembly is also complete (courtesy to Rachel). Here are some pictures:

Now that the labs are done we've had the time to reflect on our work over the semester and what we wished to accomplish by the end of classes. While we are definitely sad for not being able to complete the axis, we are happy with the fact that we've learned and progressed as a machinist in this class! We can now take a design and feel confident in putting together a machining plan. We don't need perfectly sized stock or perfectly set-up CNCs. We can completely start from scratch and machine any feasible parts we want to machine.

Lastly, we want to give a huge thank you to Paul for bearing with us and for teaching us how to be a better machinist. We learned a lot this semester. Thank you so much!!
